About Washington

Washington is known as “The Evergreen State” due to its numerous evergreen forests. This Northwest jewel of the Pacific has always held a strong love and appreciation for the great outdoors and therefore, outdoor recreation is abundant. Activities such as camping, hiking, climbing, biking, and fishing head the list. Road trips are also a popular way to view the state, even just for a day trip. Take a day to taste the thriving foodie and craft distillery scene of Spokane, hike the wild wonderous trails of Olympic National Park, or seek out Pike Place Market and the Space Needle in the flourishing city of Seattle. There’s no shortage of activities here, for families or solo travelers alike. From the newly rising art scene to Native American heritage, National Parks, apple orchards, lighthouses, islands, hot springs, and thermal pools, there is something for everyone within this sweet evergreen community.

What to Do

  • Seattle: Surrounded by lush forests, a busy waterfront, and the San Juan Islands, Seattle is a beautiful blend of nature and urban lifestyle. Pike Place Market, Space Needle, the birthplace of Starbucks, Seattle is a bustling city and active community.
  • Olympic National Park: It covers approximately 1 million acres of protected land and 70 miles of coastline. This is the destination for outdoor exploration.
  • Mount Rainier National Park: Rising 14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier is one of Washington’s proudest peaks. Go for a scenic drive around its winding roads or seek out the ultimate hiking/climbing adventure.
  • Spokane: This family-friendly city features several activities and holds a strong appreciation for art, culture, community, the great outdoors, wine, and backyard microbreweries.

When to Go

Washington Summers are usually high, in the 90s, with a peak humidity of 70% - 80%. Crowds also peak at this time. Spring can bring much of the same crowds but with more favorable temperatures, this is also the time when the cherry blossoms bloom and line the streets in a beautifully ornate display. Winter temperatures can easily dip into the 20s and 30s, making outdoor activities or family travel a bit more difficult. The best time to go would probably be in early Fall, when crowds and temperatures are mild, and you can still enjoy the changing landscape and Fall foliage. It should be noted, Washington has several popular events and festivals year-round, for music, film, food, art, and even tulips so plan accordingly to those as well.
