An Atlanta City Pass offers discounts on such must-see sites as the Georgia Aquarium, High Museum, and Zoo Atlanta. In fact, the city’s midtown area boasts more cultural attractions than any city in the southwestern United States. Just make sure you save some energy for the evening because the city comes alive at night.

Events

The new year kicks off with the Peachbowl Parade down Peachtree St.

Favourite son and Nobel laureate Martin Luther King Jr is feted during King Week, culminating on the anniversary of his birth, 15 January.

There's nothing like hearing 'to be or not to be' delivered with a southern drawl, and you can do just that during the Georgia Shakespeare Festival, which kicks off in June.

In mid-September, it's off to Stone Mountain Park for the Yellow Daisy Festival, a frenzy of daisy-related arts and crafts.

Atlanta's yuletide revelry includes the Festival of Trees, where you can bid on a fully decorated tree.

When to Go

There are four seasons in Atlanta: long, hot summers in the 80s F and 90s F, winters that range from the 40s through the 60s, and a more mild spring and autumn. Atlanta’s driest months are September and October. This beautiful city receives lots of rain, but only the occasional snowfall.

The renowned civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr., was born Michael King in Atlanta on January 15, 1929.

Atlanta has been called the City of Love, A-Town, Dogwood City, The Big Peach and most recently, Hollywood of the South, due to its booming film industry. 

In the springtime, when the dogwoods are in full bloom, Piedmont Park in Atlanta comes alive at the Dogwood Festival, a family-friendly crafts and music festival that has been a tradition since 1936.
