Numerous nature trails, fabulous beaches, and a wild bird rehab center await on dry land. This stunning archipelago off the south coast of Florida is located near the renowned 1.5 million acre wetland, Everglades National Park.

The 30-mile-long Key Largo is the largest of the Florida Keys. There are plenty of places to shop and indulge in some of the region’s best catches, such as cracked conch, spiny lobster, and delicious stone crab.

This self-proclaimed Dive Capital of the World offers some of the most exquisite undersea landscapes, plus the planet's largest artificial reef.

It’s easy to find something delightful to do in Key Largo. And it’s just as simple to sit in a hammock watching the pink sunset float languidly into the sea.

 

 

What To Do

 

Go deep and discover Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

Enjoy the natural parks, undersea statues, Coral Reef Theater, snorkeling, diving, and glass-bottom boat tours at exquisite John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.

View the work of local artists at the Murray E. Nelson Government and Cultural Center in Key Largo.

Snorkel with giant sea turtles and other colorful creatures. Visit the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center. A day trip to Everglades National Park will mark the experience of a lifetime.

Feast on local cracked conch, spiny lobster, stone crab and key lime pie. Feast your eyes on the local scenery and incredible sunsets. 

When to Go

When to go to Key Largo depends on you. Those with a penchant for water sports will love summer in Key Largo when the water is quite warm.

The driest season runs from November through March. There’s plenty to discover here round the year, from turquoise waters to bright pink sunsets.

Visitors looking for a culinary adventure should visit during January’s festive Key Largo and Islamorada Food and Wine Festival.

 

 

Fast Facts

The 1948 film noir classic, Key Largo, directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall and Lionel Barrymore, helped put this intriguing island on the map. Key Largo’s Caribbean Club bar was also a co-star.

Cayo Largo (Key Largo) means Long Key in Spanish.

Although the keys begin just 15 miles south of Miami, they feel worlds away.

Renowned athlete, Diana Nyad, set a world record swimming from Havana to the Keys without a shark cage.

The 160-mile-long Florida Reef is one of the world’s most extensive coral reefs.
