About Medellin

Among fields of flowers and coffee lies the exciting, vibrant city of Medellin. Here you'll find pleasant weather, colorful nightlife and a welcoming local culture that's made Medellin popular with savvy travelers looking to avoid the crowds. The birthplace of Fernando Botero, the famous Colombian artist best known for his paintings and sculptures of exaggeratedly large subjects, Medellin is full of art and life. See it all from the Metrocable, a unique public transit system of elevated cable cars that connect the city's diverse districts and attractions.

What To Do

Kick off your shoes - Barefoot Park is an amusement park for the feet. A variety of surfaces and activities are designed for exploration by  shoeless visitors, making this a quirky experience perfect for all ages.

Get a birds-eye view - Medellin's famous public transit system is perfect for sightseeing, and you don't even have to leave your seat. Elevated cable cars cross the city, climbing high above local neighborhoods and scenic attractions.

Leave room for dinner - Try bandeja paisa, a traditional plate that includes rice, beans, ground meat, fried egg, plantain, chorizo, pork belly, blood sausage and more.

What To See

Parque Arvi - If you'd like to escape the bustle of the city for a few hours, this forested park at the top of a cable car line is a great place for a hike.

Plaza Botero - An outdoor sculpture garden featuring the rotund works of Fernando Botero. Step inside the nearby Museo de Antioquia to see paintings by the artist, as well as others.

When to Go

The temperature in Medellin is pleasant year round, but visitors here between the months of April and November may get a chance to experience one of the city's famous torrential downpours. A few annual events make for a perfect vacation experience. In December, the city glows with millions of Christmas lights during El Alumbrado. In midsummer (late July-early August) the Flower Festival is held, a colorful celebration of the area's crop featuring flower displays and a traditional parade of growers.
