What to Do
- Cape Kidnappers Golf Course: Located in Hawkes Bay, this award-winning 18-hole course, designed by world-renowned golf architect Tom Doak, lies high above the cliffs with stunning views of the sea.
- Hawke’s Bay: This area boasts of vineyards, mouth-watering cuisine, boutique shops, cycling trails, and bird watching opportunities at Cape Kidnappers. This beautiful sea setting, with rugged sandstone cliffs and coastal views, provides several leisurely activities with a serene backdrop.
- Guided Walking Tours: Due to the city’s smaller size, walking tours are popular and available every day. These tours cover the city’s history, architecture, and art, with self-guided tours available as well.
When to Go
Hawkes Bay is busiest during the summer, December – February, as the peak heat hits, ranging from 60°F to 75°F. Winters can be chilly, ranging between 48°F and 68°F, but the crowds also thin out at this time, giving more space and time to the city’s recreational activities. February brings the biggest festival, the Art Deco festival, a fun and commemorative celebration of all things from the 1930’s.
