Explore Mexico

Overview

Manzanillo is one of Mexico’s largest and busiest ports. The city is also recognized as the Sailfish Capital of the World. Its magnificent crescent-shaped bays and luxurious resorts attract sun-worshippers and sports fisherman from across the globe.

Explore the picturesque shoreline, dotted with white buildings that gently contrast the area’s vivid blue skies and lush landscape. Downtown Manzanillo’s giant blue sailfish sculpture is the perfect symbol for a city so blissfully tied to the sea.

Other popular areas include the Jardin, where locals mingle and dance to live bands; La Av Mexico, lined with charming shops and restaurants; and the morning mercado, offering fresh seafood, produce and local goods every morning.

What To Do

Fish for some of the city’s famous sailfish and marlin as well as dorado (mahi-mahi), giant tuna, roosterfish, sea bass, wahoo, snapper, and yellowtail.

Explore the unique shipwrecks hiding beneath the sea in Playa La Boquita. Snorkel or dive through the vast tunnels and coral reefs hugging Manzanillo’s pristine coastline. Discover an underwater world of colorful fish, crustaceans, octopus, parrotfish and moray eels that call Manzanillo’s azure ocean home.

Visit Bahia de Manzanillo, the city’s old quarter, near downtown, as well as the more modern Bahia de Santiago to the west.

Play a round of golf amidst tranquil forests and tropical waters. Stroll along the malecon, a mile-long boardwalk along the ocean.

When to Go

Sunshine is plentiful along Mexico’s warm Pacific coast. Manzanillo proves no exception, boasting around 350 days of sunshine per year, even during the rainy season between June and October.

The dry season, from November to May, doesn’t see much rain. The temperatures average around 83 F during July and between 75 and 82 F the rest of the year.
