Fifth Avenue is a long stretch of cobblestone street packed with shops, galleries, restaurants and nightclubs. Get the full tourist experience by browsing here, but don't be afraid to wander down side streets to discover the hidden gems just steps off of the main thoroughfare.
Want to explore outside of town? Playa del Carmen is the main ferry port for Cozumel, so schedule a day trip and check out this unique island destination. Book a tour of Tulum, the ancient Mayan city whose well-preserved ruins still stand on the cliffs above the clear blue sea, or check out the nearby Xcaret eco-adventure park.
When to Go
With average yearly temperatures between 70 and 90F, there's never a bad time to experience Playa del Carmen. The spring is known for milder temperatures and drier weather, while the summer months are hot and sunny. September and October are the wettest months of the year, considered Playa del Carmen's rainy season.
