Bran Castle – One of Transylvania’s most visited attractions, Bran Castle was the inspiration for the castle in Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” which is why it is known all over the world as “Dracula’s Castle.” Romania’s most famous medieval castle is perched high on a cliff and has commanding views of the mountain route between Transylvania and Wallachia and a palpable aura of mystery. Hoia Baciu and Gugu Peak – Romania is blessed with natural beauty and some of its best, and spookiest, sights are outdoors. For truly haunting beauty in an eerie setting visit Hoia Baciu, considered one of the world’s most haunted places. This seemingly endless forest in Transylvania is often referred to as the Bermuda Triangle of Romania. Another mysterious, albeit majestic, natural landmark is Gugu Peak, aka “the Mountain that Disappears.” Located in the Godeanu Mountains near Retezat National Park, home to one of Europe’s last remaining intact old-growth forests, the highest peak in this range at certain times of day seems to fade into the sky.
