As the name suggests, Porto’s most famous export is port, the sweet red wine that can be sampled in cellars around the city. Porto is more than wine, of course – this historic city is full of sightseeing opportunities, and the best way to experience the magic of Porto is to create your own walking tour. (Porto is truly magical – J.K. Rowling began writing the first Harry Potter book here, and the Livraria Lello bookstore inspired some of its fantastical locations.)

Stroll along the Douro riverside, lined by colorful old buildings and tiny cafes. Marvel at murals made of beautiful hand painted tiles known as azulejos in the São Bento train station and throughout the city. And of course, don’t forget to try a tasting flight or two of port while you’re there.
