Explore Central America

Overview

Straddling two mighty waterways, the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, Central America extends from Belize in the north to Panama in the south. No location in Central America is more than 125 miles from the sea.

The region’s diverse scenery encompasses lush tropical rainforests and enchanting cloud forests, as well as relics of the ancient Mayan civilization, vibrant towns and multi-colored tropical seascapes.

This vibrant isthmus holds sixteen UNESCO World Heritage Sites, with at least one per country, including ancient archaeological sites, Spanish colonial cities, national parks and stunning islands, such as Costa Rica’s impressive Cocos Island National Park and the diving mecca, the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System.

What To Do

Dive, sail, kayak and canoe amid the brilliant, clear-blue waters of Belize.

Discover Costa Rica’s awesome Arenal Volcano or Poás Volcano with its 2,500 foot-high crater, and deep green Botos Lagoon, just a short drive from the capital city of San José.  Bask in the sunshine on some of Central America’s best beaches bordering the Pacific coastline around Guanacaste.

Tour Nicaragua’s renowned coffee route in the north.

Explore Panama City’s impressive old quarter of Casco Viejo, founded in 1673, before heading to Panama’s iconic manmade creation, the Panama Canal.

Once you decide on where you want your vacation, consider one of our Central America all-inclusive packages and bundle all your travel needs.

When to Go

The best time to visit Central America is generally between January and March, during the dry season. In Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama, where the rains are brief year-round, the dry season runs longer, from November through April.

Fast Facts

Bordered by Mexico to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and Colombia to the southeast, Central America boasts seven beautiful countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.

Although technically a land bridge between North and South America, Central America is considered to be part of North America.

The area’s unique volcanic nature has affected everything from the cuisine, which is based on the crops that grow in the rich volcanic soil, to the settlements of its populace.

The Pan-American Highway runs through every Central American country except Belize.
