In town, Macrossan Street, the heart of Port Douglas, is lined with cafés, bars, restaurants, and boutiques. Some of its other must-see sights include Four Mile Beach, which boasts four miles of golden sand and crystal-clear water; Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas, home to a cornucopia of Australian animals including koalas, kangaroos, and crocodiles; Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, featuring a fascinating insight into Australia’s Aboriginal heritage; and Rex Smeal Park, which is located beachside and a popular spot for watching the sunset.
When to Go
The best time to visit Australia is spring and autumn when the weather is mild and pleasant and the crowds fewer. Keep in mind that Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, so spring is September to November and autumn is March to May.
