About Brisbane
Explore Queensland
Overview
Located on the Brisbane River, one of its top outdoor attractions is the riverfront South Bank Parklands, where you will find Streets Beach, a man-made lagoon for swimming, and more than 20 landscaped areas. No trip to Brisbane is complete without walking across Story Bridge, an iconic cantilever bridge spanning the Brisbane River; the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, which is home to more than 130 koalas, as well as kangaroos, wombats, emus, dingoes, Tasmanian devils, and platypus; and Mt. Coot-tha, which affords sweeping views of Brisbane.
When to Go
The best time to visit Brisbane is spring and autumn when the weather is mild and pleasant and the crowds fewer. Keep in mind that Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, so spring is September to November and autumn is March to May.
West End
Brisbane's West End is a mecca for foodies with its cornucopia of globally inspired restaurants. It also boasts cool cafes, vintage clothing shops, and pubs.
