Explore New South Wales
Overview
This bustling metropolis lies on the shores of the clear-blue Pacific Ocean and extends to the dramatic Blue Mountains. Sydney is also known for its beaches, particularly crescent-shaped Bondi Beach and Manly Beach, where the world’s first surfing contest was held in 1964. Other must-see sights in the city include Darling Harbour, the Royal Botanic Garden, the Queen Victoria Building, the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, and The Rocks, one of Sydney’s most historic and vibrant neighborhoods, which lies in the shadow of the bridge.
When to Go
The best time to visit Sydney is September through November and from March to May when the weather is most pleasant. Keep in mind that Sydney lies in the Southern Hemisphere, so summer is December through February. If visiting for three-week Vivid Sydney, the largest arts festival in the Southern Hemisphere, plan your trip sometime between late May and mid-June.
