Overview

Incheon, South Korea’s third-most-populous city, boasts a plethora of historic Buddhist temples, including Heungnyunsa Temple, which is built on Cheongnyangsan Mountain and overlooks the city; and Jeondeungsa Temple, located on Ganghwa Island. Other must-see sights in Incheon include Jayu Park, the first Western-style park in South Korea; Eurwangni Beach, a popular stretch of sand near the airport; Gwangseongbo Fortress, which was built in 1658; and Incheon Chinatown, the only official Chinatown on the Korean peninsula. 

What to See

Ganghwa Island – Located in the Yellow Sea, Ganghwa Island is renowned for its ancient stone tombs that are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site series of dolmen sites. Here you will also find Jeondeungsa Temple, which is the oldest extant Buddhist temple in Korea. 

Incheon Grand Park – This vast urban nature park is famous for its cherry blossom trees. Incheon Grand Park also contains a botanical garden, children’s zoo, walking and biking trails, sports facilities, and much more. 

Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village – This brightly colored place of wonder is decorated with the famous characters of international fairy tales, including sculptures, murals and more. 

When to Go

The best time to visit Incheon is during spring, April-June, and fall, September-November, which are typically sunny and dry with pleasant temperatures. If visiting to watch the cherry blossoms bloom, plan your visit for late March.
