Back on the mainland in Seberang Perai, opposite Penang Island, Malaysia’s second-largest city is buzzing with activity. Some of its top attractions include the Bukit Mertajam Recreational Forest, Tow Boo Kong Temple, and St. Anne’s Church.

Must-see sights on Penang Island include the magnificent 19th-century Kek Lok Si Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia; Chew Jetty, a collection of wooden stilt houses along the water in George Town where it is like stepping back in time to a bygone Malaysia; and Batu Ferringhi, the island’s premier beach destination.
