Grand Hotel Mackinac Island
About This Hotel
Guests at this National Historic Landmark built in 1887 arrive by horse-drawn carriage to a bygone era, one of afternoon tea in the parlor, croquet and bocce in the Tea Garden, and nightly dancing to the sounds of the Grand Hotel Orchestra. The Grand Hotel Mackinac Island features uniquely decorated rooms and suites, with no two alike, and the world’s longest porch, which has breathtaking views of the Straits of Mackinac. Tee off at The Jewel, the only course in America with horse-drawn carriage rides between nines, or cool off at the Esther Williams Swimming Pool, named after the actress and competitive swimmer who starred in “This Time for Keeps,” filmed at the hotel. The Grand Hotel Mackinac Island also boasts meeting space, 14 bars and restaurants, shopping, salon and spa, horse stable, and an activity center.
Location
Located on Mackinac Island, in Lake Huron between the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan, 1 mile from Mackinac Island Airport (MCD). No cars are allowed on the island. Mackinac Island is accessible via a short ferry ride from Mackinaw City or St. Ignace. The Grand Hotel is a 15- to 20-minute walk from the boat docks. For your convenience, the hotel operates horse-drawn carriages between the docks and Grand Hotel (available on a first-come, first-served basis, for a fee). Guests arriving by ferry can check their luggage with the ferry service on the mainland, and it will be tagged and delivered to the hotel.
